A message from the Executive Director . . .

It's hard to believe that we were at camp just two months ago - welcoming 297 kids and 125 volunteers to two weeks filled with fun and memories to last a lifetime! As I think back on those two weeks I feel so grateful for the new friends I met, all that I learned about diabetes, and the time I got to spend outside enjoying the sun (and rain). At the end of those two weeks I was tired, and dirty, and anxious to sleep in my own bed. But, as I drove out of camp and arrived at the top of the hill I felt inspired. Inspired to spend the next eleven months planning for another successful summer session, inspired to raise funds to send as many kids as possible to camp, and inspired to be part of the Camp Hertko Hollow family. We are gearing up for Summer, 2015 as we speak and hope that you will continue to join us - as a camper, a volunteer, and/or a donor. Camp Hertko Hollow would not be possible without all of you - thank you for being part of our family!

Celebrating Vivian Murray and her 46 years of service to CHH!

After 46 years of dedicated service, Vivian Murray will retire from her position as Camp Director. Since 1968, Vivian has been instrumental in assuring that kids with diabetes have the opportunity to attend camp – regardless of their ability to pay, so that they may experience the joy of camp while learning to better manage their disease. She’s often seen welcoming families, leading songs, announcing brave achievements, chatting with children and literally running around camp. There’s no question that she is synonymous with Camp Hertko Hollow, and has directly affected the lives of over 14,000 young people during her tenure.

In honor of Vivian’s retirement, the “Vivian Murray Endowment” has been established by the Camp Hertko Hollow board of directors. Every year, with Vivian’s assistance, a percentage of the interest income from the endowment will be utilized to help fund a project, piece of equipment, a program, or other pressing needs that calls for attention. For the lifetime of Camp Hertko Hollow, the board of directors will identify the camp’s most important needs, and ask Vivian to help decide which priority project will receive the endowment funds each year.

Please consider contributing to this important fund and help celebrate Vivian’s service to Camp Hertko Hollow. With your assistance, the Vivian Murray Endowment Fund will continue to help educate and recreate diabetic kids. Please contact our office (515-471-8523) if you are interested in making a financial donation to this fund.
