Fund Raising Ideas
Who can do fund raising to help sponsor children to attend diabetes camp?
You can! The actual cost to send a child to diabetes camp for a week is
$1,100. Parents are asked to pay what they can afford, so the remainder
must to raised through donations. Click on the link below for some
suggestions how you can help all children with diabetes attend Camp Hertko Hollow.
The camper or staff member raising the most funds will win the GRAND PRIZE
for 2012: A full 2013 campership!
Great Race Pledge Sheet
Run Like a Girl Fundraiser

Run Like a Girl is a 1K (1/2 mile) marathon, that is put on by a really
fun group of people who also have a BIG heart. The race starts at Mullets bar with food and drink specials
and ends at High Life Lounge, with drink specials, prizes and a few awesome bands. There were over 300 people
there last year. This event is crazy fun, people dress in costume, and actually get
prizes for crossing the line!
This is the event's 6th year and have decided that Camp Hertko Hollow will from now on be the recipient
of all the hard work and money they raise. We will be getting posters for us to
hang around Des Moines. If you would like some to hang in office, local gas
station or fitness club, contact us. Also, if you also want to volunteer at
the event let us know.
Great way to end a work day on a Friday night

page, and check out their pictures. The poster has the registration on it, and you can scan the black
box and register on your smart phone, or register at www.getmeregistered.com
Campership from Iron Andy and his Iron Andy Foundation
As you may know, last year my foundation sent 75 kids to camp via an essay contest.
Sadly I don't have nearly the same funds as I
had last year, but I still have a campership opportunity to share with you.
I have collaborated with a very cool new digital magazine/community called
Insulin Nation to offer at least 3 camperships this month (if there is a
good response to this Challenge I will extend it and offer more.)
Insulin Nation is a
FREE app download from Apple, Android and Kindle Fire
markets. On page 16 of the current issue (3rd
issue) you will see The Iron Andy Challenge Series. There are two
Challenges, you want the one called Hug A PWD.
Click on the Challenge card and you will link directly to a wellness site
called Hubbub Health (Hubbub also has a FREE app for iPhone). Here are the
steps:
- Join Hubbub, it's FREE
- then join the Hug A PWD challenge and hug someone with diabetes.
- check in to the Challenge by listing how many PWD's you hugged...Voila,
you are entered!
- for extra credit, use the Hubbub iPhone app and take a picture of the
hug...and show us using the Prove It function.
We will randomly select 3 huggers and award them with camperships...but the
more hugs the better!
Sell cookbooks
Earning a free campership is as "easy as pie". Our revised Carb Counting
Cookbook sells for only $15.99 and tells the Camp Hertko Hollow story while
providing diabetic and gluten-free recipes for all to enjoy. Set up a
booth at your local Wal-Mart, grocery store or pharmacy by contacting the
manager and sell away! By selling 75-100 cookbooks and you earn a full
campership. For each cookbook you sell, the camper receives $10 credit. Sell a
case of 15 cookbooks for $150 credit. Contact Deb Holwegner at 515-897-8264
to obtain cookbooks and more information.
