Since 1969, I have been
attending Camp Hertko Hollow. During my first year I was a
counselor, but beginning in 1970 I became the Camp Director and
thoroughly enjoy my duties of preparing for the camp each
year. The volunteer staff members return year after year
and have become a "camp family". Many have moved
out of state like myself, but continue to return each year at
their own expense to help provide a quality educational and
recreational experience for the campers. Over 110
physicians, nurses, dietitians, pharmacists, health professional
students, and diabetes counselors volunteer each summer because
they care. Camp Hertko Hollow is a wonderful experience
for staff as well as the campers!
Both Camp Hertko Hollow and
the Y-Camp are accredited by the American Camping Association
and meet up to 300 national standards to provide a safe and
quality program for the campers. Camp staff members are
carefully screened and undergo training to focus on a nurturing
environment for the campers. We are here to enrich the lives of
the campers and provide an experience they will remember the
rest of their lives. Many friendships made at camp last a
lifetime. Often former campers return as staff members for Camp
Hertko Hollow or the Y-Camp.
